Aparoksha Anubhuti is a wonderful prakarana grantha that unfolds the Advaita vison of Vedanta in 144 verses. This text, attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, helps us understand the oneness of jivatma and paramatma that every Upanishad talks about. Some of the verses of this text are – with small variations – taken from lesser-known Upanishads.
Starting with the need for preparation of the mind for the study of Sastra, it uses a method (prakriya), called Adhyaropa-apavada, to help us understand the world that we experience as a non-substantive superimposition (adhyaropa). After negating everything (apavada), what is left as the reality is the one indivisible whole, Brahman or I, the self
